In 2016, the creation of ClickUp in California was a revolution in the project management software industry. Indeed, they overturned the balance and dethroned a few big players in the market at the time. We can mention mainly, Monday, Notion, Trello, and Asana. With this new version, it looks like they are on their way to repeat the feat given all the resources allocated and all the new features to come!
 
As a reminder, ClickUp is an all-in-one digital workspace combining team management, document creation, chat and goal-based governance. ClickUp is a cloud-based collaboration and project management tool suitable for companies of all sizes and industries. Features include communication and collaboration tools, task assignment and status, alerts, and other features for tasks. The tool is popular in the industry due to its various features including views, custom fields and integrations.
 
This new generation 3.0 of ClickUp is incredibly powerful, simple and ready to redefine the productivity on a daily basis. In addition to substantial improvements in terms of performances and reliability, it offers numerous news features that allow you to organize all your work, and thus help you work more efficiently. intelligently and to be more productive. What's new?

A brand new infrastructure has been built and brings substantial improvements in reliability. The new architecture has been designed with a view to of extensibility (scalability) and will support your growth.
 
The database has been completely rebuilt on the basis of the three fundamental principles which are reliability, the quality and the performances. In addition, its architecture is now based on services. Here are some examples of these changes:
  • Consistent uptime every month, exceeding our 99.99 % promise
  • Real-time updates, no more refreshes
  • The display of tasks is 80 % faster
  • Notifications load instantly
  • Faster displays, especially in Spaces and Workspaces

Stunning design and improved user interface

The new version of ClickUp 3.0 offers a more user-friendly experience intuitive with a look lean and modern. ClickUp has really focused on the simplicity while increasing the ease of interaction with all its components. The "signature" remains the same, but from a visual point of view, it looks more fluid and refined.

Better personal spaces

ClickUp 3.0 focused on the user experience. This concerns not only the general form of the software, but also specific windows. They are now more customizable and more intuitive, modern and purified, as you can see:

  • Inbox: Organize your tasks with a redesigned inbox that highlights your most important notifications and provides a side-by-side view of related work.
  • Home: The home page can now be customized; it's about time! It automatically puts your most important work first and the context you need to get into your business faster.

AI & Research

With a new design and a wizard powered by AI (artificial intelligence) now directly integrated with ClickUp, you will see time-saving potential everywhere:

  • ClickUp AI: Save time by automatically generating creative ideas, summarizing long texts and improving your writing skills (and that's just the beginning, ChatGPT be careful!).
  • Universal search: Find instantly any file not only in ClickUp but also in connected applications (e.g. Google Drive, Slack, Figma).
  • Command Center: Create keyboard shortcuts that allow you to act on anything, anywhere.
  • Global action bar: Quickly access key jobs and content with a toolbar that knows what you need.

As we have all heard, AI will probably be the hot topic of the year. Therefore, all software must embrace it and adopt or integrate it to some extent. We look forward to you discovering and playing with it, because you will see the facility and the simplicity of these features. For example, if this sounds abstract to some of you, imagine that you hold weekly meetings and take notes. Absent employees will be able to, thanks to AI, get a one paragraph summary of your one hour meeting. This may not be rocket science to some, but it is the heart of productivity: Perform routine tasks and projects more efficiently. At LANE Digital Consulting, we believe that AI is and will continue to be a great tool for this (a tool, not a solution!).

More intuitive collaboration tools

ClickUp said, "If you can think it, you can build it". You will be able to manage better and with more granularity with the most advanced version of the powerful and customizable of ClickUp:

  • Canvas and Cards: Convert ClickUp into a dynamic surface that you can customize with moving maps that let you see the work your way (managers, we're talking to you!);
  • Custom task types: Create custom task types to represent just about anything you want to manage in ClickUp (accounts, folders, projects, people...). In our training sessions, we explained that tasks can be anything you want as long as you define them with SOPs. No need for SOPs now, everything will be clearer!
  • Improved automations: Manage a wide range of use cases with advanced logic and new actions. Moreover, the automations are triggered in real time (no need to refresh manually!).
  • Element of Conditional Logic in Forms: You will now be able to build more intelligent forms that can handle your most complex workflows.
  • Custom field manager To manage, edit and search custom fields in one place.
ClickUp 3.0 opens up the range of possibilities: that's what we want! Nothing new in this area, but some improvements useful for us.
Thanks to the Canvas and Cards, views will no longer be the solution to all our challenges. As before, to filter information, custom fields, display tasks in different visual representations, and get a funnel view of a department or projects, views were the cornerstone of the ClickUp workspace's success. Indeed, the canvas and the maps will allow to display the information according to their type, their importance, etc.
We will gain in intuitiveness,but also in easy to set up. This can have an impact on the training we offer to our clients. This will either allow us to allocate more time to training or to spend more time on the complexity of configuring ClickUp. Either way, it's a win for all of us.
The same applies to the types of customized tasks and improved automation. Whereas before we had to leave ClickUp and create synergies with Make (silver partner by the way), some automations can now stay in ClickUp, which will save us time in installation and will be easier to access for customers. This is very good news!
 
Finally, with respect to the conditional logic in formsWe are happy to have this feature as well, as many clients have been asking for it. Imagine that you have forms in your ClickUp for recruitment purposes. Previously, you had to create one form per job posting. Now, your first question will be what job the candidate is applying for. From that first question, conditional logic will be implemented and will lead to +10 different forms. This will streamline your recruiting process in a way we could never have imagined before this new version!
 
With regard to the custom field managerIn the past, we have seen some companies reach the existence of +1000 custom fields, while repeating the same custom field x50 times due to a lack of communication and/or best practices throughout the workspace. This created frustration, wasted time finding the right custom field, and weakened automation since it could not rely on the same custom field... This will now become much easier, although best practices will still be necessary, of course.

What is the next step?

One question you may be asking yourself after all this teasing and no change for the moment on your ClickUp workspace: when will this dream become reality? We assure you: very soon!
Indeed, we can already confirm that ClickUp 3.0 will be launched in two phases.
From the beginning of the month of March 2023Clickup is rolling out the ClickUp 3.0 experience to beta workspaces and will be increasing the speed of invitations to those on the waiting list in the coming weeks.
For the curious, you can join the ClickUp 3.0 waiting list.
Then, the general deployment of version 3.0 will be done during April and the "migration" of workspaces during June 2023.
ClickUp 3.0 is an important step in terms of improvement of the qualityof finalization of features existing and of innovations to come.
